A metal box of cotton

Left-right..Left-right..Left-right…The cold breeze of siesta felt eerier while absorbed the rhythm of military march.

“Grandma, grandma, the Punjabis are passing by. We want to see them please please..” Innocent four eyes twinkling with liveliness compelled grandma to put her two little grandsons over the wall. The camping ground is within a stone’s throw from the house. Granny feels heavyhearted. What if those cold-blooded humans hunt down her family some day?

Something’s burning. Heading towards the kitchenette, screams of her beloved grandsons reached her ears.

“Good grace! Will her family be the one to fight against weapons today? No, no, they need to hide somewhere. But where is her daughter-in-law? This young woman shouldn’t appear in front of those contaminated eyes.

Running towards the front, she found the two little kids coming this way. “Where’s your mother?” “She helped us get down and went somewhere.” The gloomy sky started to shed tears. Meanwhile the other humans wondering a young lady found after a long time, discovered the gate open.

Granny ran towards the cookhouse again searching for her daughter-in-law. Knowing those people have seen her, she’s still busy sprinkling salt into the burnt lentil. “Do you want to make us disgraced?” Pulling the tiny hands of grandsons and their mother, granny ran towards the back of house. Will the beasts do something with the one life she hasn’t taken with her?

Protecting themselves with polythene helmets, the soldiers kept looking for that girl. However, someone up in the sky didn’t let the umbrella of fortune fly away with the wind from the hands of granny’s nearest and dearest ones. While no other way but to retrace steps, someone caught the attention of the militaries.

The baby playing in the cradle must be in the left side of four months. The tiny eyes saw the people wearing khaki clothes coming this way. Then the lives hiding somewhere farther saw that one of those bloodthirsty human beings took their youngest family member in arms, drew out its playful hands and kissed in the forehead. Then returning it to the cradle, they too returned to their long-winded life of scaring and killing people.
